Sample Benefits

The New England Investment Research Challenge is an opportunity for students to experience the role and professional practices of an analyst. It is an extension of the curriculum for those interested in a career in investment management through contact with a mentor from the Boston Security Analysts Society. It is also an opportunity to be awarded scholarship assistance in the process of achieving the CFA designation.

Participation in the BSAS New England Investment Research Challenge gives participating students:

Opportunity - to connect with the investment industry

Training - BSAS will provide university students free training seminars in: How to Write a Research Report and CFA Institute's Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct

Analysis of Public Company - Teams research a company chosen by BSAS. Opportunity to meet with IR, company management and hear company presentation

Mentoring by a Professional Research Analyst - each team will be mentored by a research analyst who will review and critique the team's report

Presentation of Research to a High Profile Panel of Industry Experts - winning team will be selected based on the combined scores for the written report and the presentation

Each member of the winning team will be awarded The Charles 'Skip' Berents Award of Excellence, which includes:

  • One level of the CFA exam paid for (must be utilized within one calendar year) including registration fees and reading materials
  • Invitations and recognition at our 2008 Annual Meeting and Banquet
  • $1,000 BSAS credit: Can be redeemed at all BSAS events, and/or used for BSAS dues, and/or pursuit of the CFA designation. Must be redeemed within 5 years from award date.
