Closed-end fund (CEF) assets represent market value of over $2 trillion, equal in size to the $2 trillion total in hedge funds and larger than the $1.7 trillion in U.S. high yield bonds. Yet very little attention is paid to these fund vehicles which predate U.S. mutual funds... and turn 145 years old this year. The oldest CEF, Foreign & Colonial, was founded in 1868 and is still in existence today.

In addition, CEFs have offered diversification and performance benefits versus other fund types historically... and are typically accompanied by discounts to the underlying assets of the fund (NAV). Is it possible to capture alpha through initiatives that effectively narrow a CEF's discount to NAV? This presentation will define and explore opportunities in the CEF space.
